SHARJAH: Tanweer Festival promises to be a mesmerising celebration, bringing together an eclectic mix of world-class performances and cultural experiences.

Set in the serene Mleiha desert in Sharjah next month, this first-of-its-kind event in the region will explore themes of love, light, and harmony, inspired by the profound poetry of Jalal Al Din Al Rumi.

When and Where is the Tanweer Festival?

Tanweer Festival takes place from November 22 to 24, 2024, in the stunning Mleiha desert, Sharjah. Day 2, scheduled for November 23, is expected to be the highlight, offering an unforgettable lineup of performances and activities against the backdrop of the region’s natural beauty.

What to expect on Day 2 of Tanweer Festival

The much-anticipated 'Journeys of Light' will take centre stage on Day 2, showcasing a breathtaking collaboration of international artists. Led by Kamal Musallam, the ensemble features an all-star lineup, including vocalists Lisa Gerrard, Loir Cotler, Rasha Rizk, and Anjana Rajagopalan, alongside renowned instrumentalists. This unique performance blends various musical genres into one harmonious masterpiece, with compositions reflecting the spirit of unity and creativity.

How ‘Journeys of Light’ blends global music traditions

Headlining the evening on the main stage will be the highly anticipated performance by 'Journeys of Light', an initiative by Kamal Musallam aiming to spread the light and the spirit of collaboration between artists hailing from all over the world. Each traveling on their own 'Journey of Light', combining forces and synergies to produce one show with inspiring music that is composed by the participating artists, with a fusion of musical elements from various genres, re-arranged and orchestrated by Kamal and his core team.

The 'Journeys of Light' features Kamal Musallam on oud and guitar, Lisa Gerrard, Loir Cotler, Rasha Rizk and Anjana Rajagopalan on vocals, Glen Velez on percussion, Mike Del Ferro on piano, Dwiki Dharmawan on synthesizers, Marc Miralta on drums and Daniele Cappucci on double bass. All are accompanied by the Elite Chamber Orchestra conducted by Stoyan Stoyanov.

‘Constantinople & Ghalia Benali’

Another major highlight will be “Constantinople & Ghalia Benali,” a collaboration between setar virtuoso Kiya Tabassian and Tunisian singer Ghalia Benali. Together, they will bring to life the poetry of Rumi, weaving together ancient wisdom and modern musical interpretations.

Orchestral Qawwali

Festival-goers can look forward to an orchestral Qawwali performance by composer Rushil Ranjan and vocalist Abi Sampa, joined by dancer Aakash Odedra. Senny Camara and Mary Malifarges

At the Tree of Life stage, West African rhythms will meet contemporary pop in a performance by Senny Camara, accompanied by art performer Mary Malifarges. This dynamic duo will blend music and visual art, offering a multisensory experience for the audience.
